Exceptional Original 1930s Vintage Gold Lamé Redingote Evening Coat
This incredible coat was made in the late 1920s / early 1930s from luxurious gold lamé with a subtle spit pattern that is visible when the textile catches the light. It was cut in the classic redingote style of the period with a high front opening and a long slit in the back allowing for movement and to accommodate larger skirts below. The notched lapel collar leads to a double row of lamé covered buttons with a twisted cord fastening. Clever darting tailors the piece to be tight fitting at the waist and shaped around the wearer’s elbow. The tops of the sleeves have been gathered to create a puffed effect synonymous with the period and beautiful lace appliqués decorate the shoulders. The asymmetrical hemline adds further drama to the piece and inside it is lined in the softest black silk.
Bust: 32” (tight 34”)
Waist: 24” (tight 26”)
Shoulders: 12 3/4” seam to seam
Length: 34” centre back
The coat is in good condition, however there is an area of slight but even tarnish across the back, some seam strain and slight fraying in places and some wear to the lining as pictured.
