Exceptional Original 1920s Art Deco Pongee Silk Dress With Hand Painted Flowers
This incredible dress was made from beautifully lightweight natural pongee silk in the 1920s. It was cut in a classic loose fitting flapper dress silhouette with a finely gathered waist seam and an attached fabric tie at the back. The gathering at the waist allows the skirt to fall in voluminous pleats adding lots of lovely movement. The hem of the skirt, the collar and the ends of the waist ties have been delicately hand painted with a floral motif in shades of pale blue, pink and brown. The small collar highlights the exceptional geometric fagotting details at the neckline and bust. This dress is a sheer beauty and has survived over a hundred years in remarkable condition.
