LAYAWAY PAYMENT 1 OF 2 - RESERVED FOR LILI - Amazing Original 1940s 40s Vintage Riding Hacking Suit
RESERVED FOR LILI - PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE - LAYAWAY PAYMENT 1 OF 2 due 20th December 2021
This gorgeous suit was made from a patterned wool in the 1940s. It was cut in the classic silhouette of the period with padded shoulders and a nipped waist. The sharp notched lapel collar leads to a tapering double breasted button fastening at the front of the jacket that further emphasises the shape of the blazer. It gives it a strong equestrian vibe, similar to to hacking suits if the period. Large pockets add a little volume to the hip, which makes the waist look even smaller. It’s an excellent example of 1940s tailoring and the way it shaped a woman’s body! The inside of the blazer is lined in crepe rayon. The matching skirt was cut to a flattering longer length, indicating that this piece may date from earlier in the decade, and fastens with a metal side zipper and button above.
Shoulders: 16” seam to seam
Waist: 26” (tight 27”)
Length: 29 1/2” plus 1 3/4” hem
The suit is in good condition, however there are a number of small mends, pinholes and marks that blend well into the pattern making them considerably less noticeable. There is also a larger faint mark on one of the cuffs.
This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:
1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits
2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
We sell Dress Shields as a standalone item or at a discount if you purchase them with a garment. We will select the appropriate type to match the garment you have purchased.
