Classic Original 1950s Vintage Chocolate Brown Boucle Dress And Jacket Suit By Fred A Block
This beautiful suit was made in the 1950s from a variegated chocolate brown boucle wool. The dress is wonderfully form fitting with a nipped and darted waist and an underbust seam that creates gorgeous gathers at the bottom of the bust. The skirt flares out gently and the dress closes with a long original metal zipper at the back. The matching jacket has a looser boxy cut, that is typical of the period. Its collarless neckline emphasises the shape and three large buttons fasten the jacket at the front. Inside, it is lined in black crepe and has the iconic Fred A Block maker’s label. The designer quality of these garments is evident in the wonderful construction and the timeless elegance of these pieces.

The suit is in very good condition with no issues to note. There are holes in the side of the jacket to feed through a belt so that the waist can be nipped at the front but the original belt is no longer present.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in pure white cotton.
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
