This incredible coat was made from red wool gabardine in the late 1940s. The coat was cut in the classic fit and flare princess silhouette of the period with padded shoulders, a nipped waist and a flared skirt. The small sharp collar leads to a single row of five buttons that fasten the coat. Beautiful seam work at the front and back accentuates the princess cut shape of the coat and huge turn up cuffs finish off the sleeves beautifully. The back features an unusual pointed overhand which gives the piece a slight mac vibe. Large functional pockets at the hips add a practical element and the skirt falls in gorgeous loose pleats to give wonderful volume and swish. Inside, the coat is lined in sumptuous red satin and has a maker’s label for Juilliard.

The coat is in good condition, however there are some faint marks, some discolouration to the lining and a couple of areas of loose stitching as pictured.
