Beautiful Original 1940s 40s Vintage Navy Blue Suit By Vernon
This stunning suit was made from navy blue gabardine in the 1940s. It was cut in the classic hourglass silhouette of the period with padded shoulders and a nipped waist. This piece is a really versatile wardrobe staple that will go with so many things, just think of the accessory options: red, white, fuchsia, chartreuse, mustard…I could go on! The sharp collar has a split design down the centre, which has also been mirrored on the diamond shaped bust detailing. The jacket fastens with a single row of six fabric covered buttons that feature a beautiful over stitched design. There are small functional slit pockets at the waist and the sleeves have been finished off with turn up cuffs. Inside, the jacket is lined in navy crepe and has a maker’s label for Vernon of Boston, a National Recovery Board tag as well as a retailer’s label for Pauline’s of Haverhill. This has been stitched in upside down, a sign of a particular high quality garment as this allowed the label to be readable when the blazer was draped over a chair. The matching skirt was cut in a gentle A line and fastens with an original metal side zipper and button closure above.
