Amazing Rare Original 1940s 40s Seafoam Slack Pant Suit
This amazing slack suit was made from seafoam coloured gabardine in the 1940s. It is cut in the relaxed Californian silhouette of the end of the decade and is a true holy grail piece for many. The top was cut as a simple sleeveless and collarless vest with a deep V neckline leading to a single flower shaped button that fastens it. This is why this style of suit is called a slack suit rather than a pant suit as pant suits usually had sleeves and lapels. Two large functional patch pockets adorn the vest and add a casual feel to the piece. The matching trousers have been cut to fall in a loose wide fit from a tight fitting waistband. They have the cutest tiny pockets and fasten at the front with an original metal zipper and two hooks above. This piece is a true unicorn, pant suits are rare, slack suits even rarer and in such a fabulous colour, this suit just epitomises post war American leisure wear.
Waist: 25” hooks and zipper could be moved 1” - 1 1/2”
Rise: 16 1/2”
Length: 41 1/2” (you would lose 4” if you were to take the hem back up to the fade line)
The suit is in very good condition with only a few minute marks and nibbles as pictured. However the colour has faded a little over time, which is most apparent on the trousers where hip darts have been let out and the hem was let down. These could either be reinstated (the darts are 1 1/2” and 1 1/4” respectively and both at the back) or alternatively are only noticeable upon close inspection. Both the vest and the trousers have been machine hemmed probably at the time of the alterations taking place.
