Amazing Original Late 1940s / Early 1950s Volup Vintage Red Fitted Gabardine Storm Coat With Faux Fur Collar
This amazing coat was made from vibrant red gabardine in the 1940s. It was cut in the classic storm coat silhouette of the period with padded shoulders and a double breasted closure. The notched lapel collar has been adorned with a thick layer of faux fur to add coziness and six red buttons fasten the coat at the front. Slit pockets at the hips add a practical element and large turn up cuffs finish off the sleeves beautifully. The back showcases the wonderful tailoring of this coat, with clever darting expertly nipping in the waist to create a fitted princess silhouette before flaring put in large pleats to give movement to the back of the skirt. Inside, the coat features a thick wool lining, which is covered with grey satin on the upper section and sleeves. The sleeves also feature elasticated storm cuffs to keep any chills out. There is a maker’s label for Great Western The Robitshek-Schneider Co as well as a label noting that the garment has been treated with he Cravenette process. Cravenette was first used in the early 1940s to waterproof outerwear, especially gabardine and could only be cleaned and reapplied by specially authorised Cravenette dry cleaners.
