Amazing Original Late 1940s 40s / Early 1950s 50s Volup Vintage Swing Coat With Atomic Bakelite Coloured Fleck
This gorgeous coat was made in the late 1940s / early 1950s from a heavy charcoal grey wool with atomic flecks in grey, red, blue and mustard yellow. Just perfect for wearing with all your Bakelite accessories! It was cut in a classic swing coat shape with lightly padded shoulders and a loose fit below. The collar, which can be worn up or down, leads to a single row of three beautifully carved pinwheel buttons. But what makes this coat really stand out is the amazing panel work which creates a large V shape at the back and spare points on either side of the bust at the front. It is such a beautiful design which speaks to the quality of the tailoring of this piece. The full sleeves give a bishop sleeve effect with their tight buttoned cuff and full body above. Small functional slit pockets are cleverly disguised at the side of the coat Inside, the coat is lined in satin with a thick wool interlining, but surprisingly does not have any maker’s labels.
Shoulders: 15” from edges of V panel
Length: 38 1/2”
The coat is in very good condition with only a tiny seam split at the inside of the collar as pictured.
