Amazing Original Late 1930s 30s / Early 1940s 40s Vintage Black Velvet Coat With Huge Shoulders
This amazing coat was made from sumptuous black cotton velvet in the late 1930s / early 1940s. It is cut in the classic hourglass silhouette of the period with super strong padded shoulders and a nipped waist. The collarless neckline further emphasises the strong shoulder line. The coat fastens with two fabulous decorative lucite buttons with golden floral centres at the neck and the waist. Clever panelling at the shoulders gives a cape effect with gorgeous pleats falling from the seam at the back down the bodice. Inside, the coat is lined in black taffeta and has a maker's label for Herr Fashion Shop of Watertown N.Y.

The coat is in very good condition with only some slight depression to the velvet in places and a scuff at the back of the neck as pictured. One of the buttonholes is fraying slightly.
