Amazing 1920s Floral Rayon Jersey Flapper Dress With Fringing
This fabulous dress was made in the 1940s from rayon jersey with a floral rose print. It was cut in the style of the earlier flapper era with a straight silhouette and a drop waist. We think this was likely a theatre piece due to the adornments. The hips have been highlighted with a gathered and ruched flounce at the front and back, which falls into longer draping at the sides of the dress. A green bejewelled metal decoration adorns the centre of the front swag. The skirt portion of the dress has been further decorated with black fringing attached with beading, which appears to be a later addition to the dress, giving credence to the theory that it was a theatre piece. Matching beading highlights the neckline of the piece.
Please note that the dress does not have any openings and needs to slip on over the head. Due to the fabric, there is some stretch and we have shown below the measurements at rest and maximum stretch.
Bust: 30”-40”
Waist: 27”-34”
Hips: 28”-35”
Length: 38” plus 3” hem
The dress is in fair condition with a number of small holes, seam splits and repairs. There is also a larger mark at the back as pictured. However due to the print these do blend in well and are mostly only noticeable on closer inspection. The ornament is missing some green stones and the beading at the edge of the neckline is loose.
