Exquisite Original 1940s Vintage Burgundy Double Breasted Princess Coat With Tiered Cape
This exquisite coat was made in the 1940s from sumptuously soft burgundy wool. It was cut in the classic fit and flare silhouette of the period with a tightly nipped waist and a flared skirt. Geometric seam work highlights the beautiful tailoring of this piece and eight beautiful buttons fasten it in a double breasted configuration. Slit pockets at the hip disappear into the folds of the flared skirt and turn up cuffs finish off the sleeves beautifully. However the real statement detail is the attached three tiered cape which falls in generous ruffled pleats across the wearer’s shoulders. This is truly one of the most wonderful coats of the the period that we have handled. Inside, the coat is lined in burgundy crepe and has a maker’s label for Russeks.

Length: 42” plus 2 1/2” hem
The coat is in good condition, however there are a few areas of wear and balding and seam strain as pictured. The lining has some splits at the shoulders and underarms, however this is not visible when worn.
