Exquisite Original 1930s Vintage Red Bias Cut And Draped Rayon Jersey Evening Gown With Amazing Beading

This amazing evening gown was made from red rayon jersey in the 1930s. It was fashioned in the classic form fitting bias cut silhouette of the period, enhanced by the gentle stretch of the fabric. The high neckline has been adorned with shiny black and turquoise beadwork arranged in the shape of an oversized collar. The tops of the long sleeves have been gently gathered and there is super flattering gathering below the bust to enhance the wearer’s shape. A wide draped waistband draws attention to the perfectly nipped waist from which the skirt flows loosely in billowing pleats. Pleated front panels on the skirt further enhance the movement and swish of the dress when the wearer moves. The gown fastens with an original metal zipper at the back of the neck and at the side and has a maker’s label for Best & Co of New York. 

As there is stretch to the fabric, we have shown below the measurements both at rest and at maximum comfortable stretch: 

Bust: 26-34”

Waist: 20-25”

Hips: 44”

Shoulders: 12 1/2-14” seam to seam

Length: 59”

The dress is in good condition, however there are a number of marks as pictured as well as a few stains to the skirt which are lost in the many folds. Most of these marks are much less noticeable in person than they appear under photography lighting and these may lift with dry cleaning. There are also a few repairs and areas of seam strain as shown.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.

They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:

1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits

or

2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)

They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
