Exceptional Late 1930s / Early 1940s Navy Blue Soutache Coat With Gorgeous Buttons
This exceptional coat was made in the late 1930s from navy blue wool crepe. It was cut in the classic wartime silhouette with padded shoulders and a gently fitted waist. The small collar leads to a single row of six stunning gold tone floral statement buttons which fasten the coat at the front. Beautiful seam work panels highlight the elegant silhouette and high quality of tailoring. However the real statement detail on this piece is the exquisite soutache embroidery that decorates the flared skirt section of the coat, the workmanship is truly superb. Inside, the coat is lined in blue rayon with the rare Forstmann Woolen maker’s label that was in use throughout the 1930s and early 1940s before the more common Forstmann label was introduced.

The coat is in very good condition with only a few barely noticeable nibbles as pictured. The coat has been relined as the original lining had sadly been removed.
