Exceptional 1930s Original Vintage Femme Fatale Bishop Sleeve Evening Gown
This exquisite evening gown was made in the 1930s from black satin backed crepe. It was cut in the classic fitted hourglass silhouette of the period with an unusual rounded yolk at the waist which has been adorned with three rows of shining bead work. The square neckline draws attention to the fabulous gathered and padded shoulders and the huge flowing bishop sleeves. The unusual beaded semi circular yolk is mirrored at the back of the dress and twenty eight tiny buttons fasten the gown. A stunning swag adds a lovely detail at the side of the dress. The skirt is wonderfully free flowing with dozens of tiny pleats at the front and back giving beautiful swish and movement to the piece. This gown is giving us all the old Hollywood femme fatale vibes!

The dress is in very good condition with only a few faint marks, small repairs and loose beads as pictured as well as a hole at the side near the hem which gets lost in the volume of the skirt.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in pure white cotton.
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
