Amazing Original 1940s Vintage Grey Striped Belted Fit And Flare Princess Coat By Gotham
This exceptional coat was made in the 1940s from grey and black rayon faille. It was cut in the classic princess style of the period with a perfectly nipped waist and a flared skirt. The high neckline is further highlighted by the unusual seam work on the raglan shoulders and the coat fastens with a single popper at the waist below the wrap over. The waist has been nipped in with darts and a beautiful black scalloped belt with metal rivets cinches it in even further. Large pockets at a practical feature at the hips and the skirt falls in large billowing pleats giving the piece wonderful shape and movement. The oversized half moon cuffs draw the attention to the wide sleeves and have been finished off to perfection with large embossed silver buttons. Inside, the coat is lined in black crepe and has a maker’s label for Gotham as well as a National Recovery Board tag.

The coat is in very good condition with only a couple of exterior marks and a couple of threads in the lining as pictured. The colour of the piece is even without any variance, but this has been tricky to capture due to the lustre of the textile.
