This amazing summer suit was made in the 1940s from a lightweight fine textured cotton with a tiny micro check pattern. Is was cut in the classic hourglass silhouette of the period with padded shoulders and a nipped waist. The fabulous asymmetrical closure adds a real design detail to the suit as it wraps over the wearer’s bodice, fastens with four buttons and then sweeps down into a rounded off hemline. Clever darting to the waist gives added emphasis to the fitted waist and there is a tiny functional slit pocket at the right hip. The short sleeves have been finished off with large turn up cuffs which have been trimmed in red cotton on the underside. Matching fabric was also used to highlight the underside of the collar. Inside, the jacket is unlined and has a maker’s label for RK Originals. The matching skirt features large inverted kick pleats at the front and back and fastens with an original metal side zipper and button closure above.
