Exquisite Original 1920s Antique Copper Silk Satin Beaded Flapper Dress
This exquisite dress was made in the 1920s from glowing copper silk satin. It was cut in the classic loose fitting silhouette of the flapper era which allowed plenty of room for movement and dancing. The sleeve edges and round neckline are finished with a piped edge and beautiful deep copper beading decorates the neckline. Matching beadwork adorns the hem of the dress where two large rounded panels at the front and two at the back feature beading in the shape of a stylised lady. At the centre of the skirt, the hem scallops up to reveal a beautiful tiered detail below and fourteen tiny buttons decorate each side where the hem lifts into high slits. Gorgeous pin tucking adds a further detail on the sides of the hip and the inside of the bodice is lined in silk.
Please note there are no openings and the dress slides on over the head and allow for this when considering the measurements below.
Bust: 42”
Waist: 40”
Hips: 44”
Length: 44 1/2”
The dress is in good condition, however there is a small hole in the centre of the bodice at the front (easily covered with a lariat necklace), some slight bead loss and the silk lining is fragile and starting to shatter as pictured.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in pure white cotton.
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
We sell Dress Shields as a standalone item or at a discount if you purchase them with a garment. We will select the appropriate type to match the garment you have purchased.
