Super Rare Original 1940s Vintage Four Piece Kilt Suit In Ancient Lindsay Tartan By RW Forsyth
This incredible four piece suit set was made in the 1940s. It includes a blazer, waistcoat, kilt and matching underpants. The blazer and waistcoat were fashioned from heavy weight wool tweed in a heather shade. The notched lapel collar highlights the padded shoulders which were adorned with decorative tabs and leads to a single high button that fastens the blazer. The hem of the jacket is sloped creating a V cut out to show off the garments below and slanted waist pockets add a practical element. Inside, the jacket is lined in fine cotton and has a maker’s label for R W Forsyth of Glasgow and Edinburgh, a preeminent manufacturer of fine Highlands wear that was founded in 1872. It also contains the name of the original owner John E.K. Moore and the date of manufacture, 1949.
The matching waistcoat is tight fitting with chest and waist pockets and fastens with five buttons at the front. The back was fashioned from brown fine polished cotton and includes a back belt to cinch it in. It is lined in classic striped ticking.
The kilt features the vivid turquoise, fuchsia pink and yellow colours of the Ancient Lindsay tartan. Clan Lindsay is one of the oldest Scottish clans, having roots dating back to the 11th century in both Scotland and England. The kilt features the traditional pleated back and side closure with leather straps.
And finally, there is a matching pair of tartan underpants for those who prefer a bit of warmth under their kilt. They are elasticated at the waist and fasten with three buttons at the front.

The suit is in very good condition with only a few minor flaws, a couple of slight fade spots to the back of the waistcoat and a couple of moth holes in the underpants as pictured.
