Breathtaking Original 1930s 30s Vintage Full Length Floral Print Garden Party Lawn Dress With Ruffle Detail
This stunning dress was made in the early to mid 1930s from a beautiful soft buttercream crepe georgette with a delicate floral pattern in shades of coral, yellow and periwinkle blue. A simple V neckline at the front and back of the dress allows the stunning flutter sleeves to really shine! They have been adorned with several layers of tiered cream georgette ruffles which are mirrored at the bottom of the hemline. Gorgeous piecework gives additional structure and shape to the piece and you could just picture it in one of the early 30s drawn adverts for garden party dresses.
Bust: 32” (35” with the insert panel)
Waist: 23” (28” with the insert panel)
Hips: 36”
Shoulders: 16” seam to seam
Length: 52”
The dress is in good condition with only a few marks, some wear to the silk ruffles, an amateur repair near the neckline and a couple of small holes as pictured. There have been separate panels inserted at each side of the bodice at some point, likely to enlarge the bust. These are made of a different fabric but are not overly noticeable so could be worn as is or they could be removed (we have shown measurements above both with and without the panels) or hooks or press studs added to the seam edges so that they can be closed up once the dress has been put on over the wearer’s head.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:
1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits
or
2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
We sell Dress Shields as a standalone item or at a discount if you purchase them with a garment. We will select the appropriate type to match the garment you have purchased.
