Rare Original 1940s Vintage Red CC41 Evening Gown And Jacket With Soutache Embroidery
This stunning evening gown was made in the 1940s from rust red satin backed crepe. It was cut in the classic hourglass silhouette of the period with a beautifully nipped waist and a flowing full length skirt. Wide straps create a gorgeous sweetheart neckline which is further highlighted with a panel of wonderful soutache embroidery running along the top of the bust and down the centre of the bodice. The large gores in the skirt open up into inverted pleats below the hip and give great movement to the dress, perfect for swishing around the dance floor. The dress comes with a matching open fronted jacket which mirrors the gorgeous soutache accents along its plackets and hem. Inside, both pieces are unlined and have a maker’s label for Broadbank’s London as well as the iconic CC41 utility label.

The dress and jacket are in good condition, however there are a number of small snags, tiny seam pops and some light water marks as pictured.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in pure white cotton.
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
