Rare Art Deco 1920s 20s Vintage Black Liquid Satin Two Piece Suit Set With Battenburg Lace Collar

This incredibly rare set was made from sumptuous black satin in the late Edwardian era / the early 1920s. Finding a two piece from this period is extremely rare, especially in good condition and a wearable size. This set features a gorgeous blouson top with beautifully tailored dart work at the shoulders and the waist. Ten tiny fabric covered buttons adorn the bust and three matching buttons have been used in each sleeve to highlight the beautiful bulbous shape. A delicate cream Battenburg lace collar adds a further design detail to the neckline. The matching skirt was cut in a flattering longer length and has decorative dart work at the front and back which allows the skirt to fall in a slim line which opens up into pleats at the front near the hem. The skirt fastens with poppers at the side and both pieces are unlined.

The ensemble is in very good condition with only a repair near the overlap by the poppers and another repair at the waistband of the skirt, neither of which is visible when work, and some loose threads near the skirt hem (the skirt may have been shortened as it has an untidy hem).

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.

They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:

1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits

or

2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)

They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
