Rare And Exquisite Original 1940s Volup Vintage Beaded Tan Swing Coat

This exceptional coat was made in the 1940s from caramel coloured wool gabardine. It was cut in the classic swing silhouette of the period with the coat falling loosely from strong padded shoulders. A notched lapel collar and large turn up cuffs add classic wartime styling. A defined semicircular shoulder yolk adds definition to the back of the coat and creates voluminous folds below it that give the coat its classic swing silhouette. The yolk has been adorned with thousands of beautiful copper coloured beads and soutache detailing along the edge. This wonderful beading and soutache decoration continues at the front of the coat covering the shoulders before running in strong geometric panels down either side of the placket and widening out across the entire hem section. The placement of this decoration gives the coat wonderful structure and focuses the eye.

The clever construction of the piece creates a flattering silhouette that is longer at the back before lifting the hem slightly at the front to ensure it hits the wearer’s body at the best possible place. The coat is intended to be worn open at the front with no fastenings and the inside is lined in tan rayon crepe. The quality of the construction, use of yolks and the style and placement of the beadwork feel very much like an Evalen Original, however sadly the original maker’s label is no longer present.

Thd coat is in good condition with only a few small holes and nibbles as well as some wear to the lining as pictured.
