Exceptional Original Early 1940s Vintage Red Fit And Flare Princess Coat With Bishop Sleeves
This incredible coat was make from beautiful raspberry red wool in the early 1940s. It was cut in the classic fit and flare princess silhouette of the period with strong padded shoulders, a tightly nipped waist and a flared skirt. The collar was fashioned from sumptuously soft fur and matching fur trim adorns the huge statement bishop sleeves. The coat overlaps asymmetrically at the front and fastens with four fabric covered buttons on a double breasted configuration at the waist and a single button at the neck. The waist is further highlighted with a wide panel to draw attention to the cinched shape and clever gathering below the waistband adds beautiful movement to the skirt. Inside, the coat is lined in rich red satin and has a maker’s label for Forstmann and a retailer’s tag for Charles F. Berg of Portland. Oregon.
