This stunning suit was made in the 1940s from a vibrant coral coloured gabardine. An hourglass silhouette is created by combining strong padded shoulders with a nipped waist. A high V neckline, combined with a notched collar, mark the beginning of a line of five fabric covered buttons. Three angular seams running across the jacket add an interesting geometric design to the blazer which is further emphasised through the decorative tab pocket flaps at the the bust and waist. The waist pockets are functional. Inside, the jacket is lined in coral crepe and has a maker’s label for Swansdown New York as well as a National Recovery Board label. The matching skirt is vented at both sides and fastens with a top button and metal zipper below.

The suit is in good condition with some faint staining to the front of the jacket and a further two stains to the skirt as pictured. There is also a small nibble to the inside of the jacket near to the label.
