Wonderful Original 1930s Volup Volup Vintage Burgundy Floral Rayon Afternoon Day Dress
This gorgeous dress was made in the 1930s from a burgundy rayon printed with lily of the valley and other flowers. It was cut in the classic gently fitted silhouette of the period that elegantly slimed the wearer’s body. The bodice was cut in an unusual wrap over style with a large scalloped edge flounce on one side, which has been backed with soft pink crepe. Matching crepe also accentuates the deep V neckline and serves as a modesty panel. An integral fabric tie belt can be used to cinch in the waist and has been tied at the back. Below it runs a yolk panel from the front to the back of the dress to give added structure and below it the skirt glares out freely.
The dress slides on over the head and there are no openings. Please allow some space in the measurements below for this.
Bust: 44”
Waist: 42” but cinched in with belt
Hips: 52”
Shoulders: 15 1/2” seam to seam
Length: 47”
The dress is in very good condition with only a minor flaw as pictured.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in pure white cotton.
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
We sell Dress Shields as a standalone item or at a discount if you purchase them with a garment. We will select the appropriate type to match the garment you have purchased.
