Exceptional Original 1930s Vintage Cream And Black Striped Bustle Back Skirt Suit
This exceptional skirt suit was made from wool in the 1930s. The jacket features a delicate pin stripe pattern in cream and black and was cut in the classic hourglass silhouette of the era with padded puff shoulders and a nipped waist. The strong shoulder line is further enhanced by the small high collar and six beautiful silver tone buttons fasten the blazer at the front. Matching buttons adorn the decorative pocket flaps and the fleeces where they taper down into a slim wrist. The pattern has been expertly matched throughout the piece and the direction of the stripe has been cleverly altered to shape the jacket. This is particularly evident on the back of the jacket where a pleated bustle adds a stunning detail. Inside, the jacket is unlined and has a maker’s label for Evelyn Alden as well as sewn in dress shields. The matching skirt was cut in a gentle A line with a number of deep inverted pleats adding movement. The skirt fastens with an original metal side zipper and button closure above.
