Original 1940s 40s Vintage Blue Novelty Print Rayon Dress With Matching Jacket

This gorgeous set was made from a wonderfully slippery blue rayon in the 1940s. It features a fabulous novelty print of Asian family scenes as well as cherry blossom and leaves. The dress is cut in a flattering longer length and boasts padded shoulders and a rounded neckline with a small V cut out. Short sleeves and a nipped waist finish the dress off in style. The dress closes with a side metal zipper and retains its original paper label. The matching jacket is cut in a classic 1940s hourglass silhouette with padded shoulders and a nipped waist. It features a small scalloped collar and small functional pockets at the waist. The shoulders have a slight gather and turn up cuffs finish off the three quarter length sleeves.

The dress is in good condition, however there is a tiny mark and some puckering on the sleeve as pictured. Some repairs are needed to the underarms and there is also some fading and discolouration near the hem of the dress. This is not very noticeable when worn but could easily be remedied by taking up the hem a little. However the jacket has significant fade to the shoulders, sleeves, hem and side as well as some discolouration to the collar and some nibbles near the hem. 

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.

They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:

1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits

or

2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)

They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
