Super Rare Original 1940s 40s Vintage Cream And Green Ski Suit With Fabulous Lining
This super rare suit was made in the 1940s from cream whipcord Ski-O-Twill, a water repellent fabric treatment (not sure if it still is now). The jacket was cut with padded shoulders and a slide nip to the waist. The small collar leads to a single row of six beautiful green buttons which fasten it and matching buttons have been used to adorn the two functional bust pockets and the sleeve tabs. Inside, the jacket features the most beautiful lining depicting images 1940s skiers and bears a maker’s label for Och Freres Ski Wear, a retailer’s label for Sam’s Fifth Avenue as well as the Ski-O-Twill label.
The matching cream trousers are fitted at the waist, opening out to a roomy thigh. They taper down at the calf to a moss green corduroy cuff with stir ups to hold them in place. A single pin tuck runs down the front and back of each leg for an added design detail and the trousers fasten with a zipper and button at the front and have a zipped pocket on each side as well as across the back. Huge belt loops would accommodate a fabulous vintage leather belt for additional support, however there was some non slip tape added to the inside waist. This is clearly a later addition as it covers the Saks Fifth Avenue label.
This is such a rare and unique set and for it to have survived in this colour and condition is remarkable (I guess a strong endorsement for the Ski-O-Twill fabric)! We have attached an article from 1940 of the actress Nan Grey wearing a similar ski suit with brown trousers.

The ski suit is in very good condition with only a few faint marks as pictured (mainly to the trousers) as well as some faint discolouration to the inside of the jacket collar and a mark on the whipcord centre of the jacket lining.
The original trousers cuffs and stir ups were damaged but have been refashioned to the original design from modern corduroy by our talented seamstress. The buttons are likely replacements as they are a little tight on the pockets but are period correct.
